Cluster development projects

Development of Cross Border Automotive Cluster (Slovenia – Serbia).

In 2005, the “South East Europe Cross Regional Automotive Cluster Development” project was initiated. Anteja ECG, working with the top staff of the Automotive Cluster of Slovenia, senior officials from Serbian Ministry of Economy and top staff from Serbian automotive supplier industry to train them on cluster approach, identify key actors and potential Slovenian and Serbian members of cross regional automotive cluster, identify fields of cooperation between Slovenian and Serbian automotive suppliers, identify key actions, which need to be performed on clusters and at the cross border cluster level, and identify and acquire financial resources for program implementation.

Several workshops, focus groups & trainings were organized over 9 months. Anteja ECG then designed the program which envisages to support and strengthen the institutional framework for providing practical services to SMEs in the industry sector, achieving three inter-related objectives:

  • Enhancing the performance of Serbian SMEs in the automotive component industry to ensure their international competitiveness through enterprise-oriented direct shop floor interventions,
  • Upgrading the Serbian automotive support institutions through strengthening of the institutional set-up and development of a pool of well-trained national engineers and market experts in the automotive component industry, and
  • Creation of a regionally networked Southeast Europe cluster in the automotive component sector to facilitate access of Serbian SMEs to international markets through supporting their integration into global supply chains, based on existing cluster development expertise in the automotive industry in the region. 

The project has been a success; UNIDO funds has been acquired and complemented by private funds. The program will be extended in 2007-2008 under the title “Facilitating International Market Access for Small and Medium-sized Manufacturers in the Automotive Component Industry in Serbia and Montenegro” project. The project fund will be 400.000 EUR.
